While she lives in Brooklyn, artist Conie Vallese now has a second home worlds away from the New York frenzy. In the Portuguese countryside, 45 minutes from Lisbon, she has treated herself to a studio near the ocean that brings her a long-sought serenity. Raised by a father who was a doctor and wood sculptor, and a mother who studied interior design, the artist grew up in Buenos Aires, surrounded by creative minds. 'My family taught me to cultivate an eye for detail and to understand forms,' she says. As a child, Conie Vallese admired her grandmother's oil paintings; the latter had set up a sun-drenched studio filled with art books, sketches, and notebooks. To this day, she still cherishes their poetic conversations.
