Joana Vasconcelos’ art takes root in a Manhattan apartment for an ambassador

October 15, 2026

Take a tour of the Kelly Behun-designed apartment for Ambassador Randi Charno Levine, home to her extensive art collection, including this new commission by Vasconcelos.

The apartment was designed by Kelly Behun, whom Levine chose for her thoughtful approach to a curated home. ‘I had seen a number of projects by Kelly and her team and was struck by how they balanced restraint with real warmth; nothing felt forced, and nothing felt like it was there simply to impress,' says Levine. ‘That sensibility, of letting objects and art complement each other within a space rather than compete, was exactly what I was looking for.

      RoWin'Atelier

RoWin'atelier was founded in 2011 by architects Frédéric Rochette and Hervé Winkler, emerging from a cross-disciplinary approach that merges architecture, design, and art craftsmanship. Their journey has been  driven by a deep exploration of space in all its dimensions, where the scale of architecture is just as important as that of furniture. For them, attention to detail and impeccable execution are essential, in line with a strong interest for how objects blend into their environment. Every piece is designed as a true architectural element.

Time plays a central role in their work, inseparable from the pursuit of beauty, precision, and fine craftsmanship. It is within this careful, measured approach that true luxury resides: in the excellence of the gesture, the accuracy of proportions, and the depth of materials. Based in Paris, RoWin’Atelier is a transdisciplinary firm mainly focused on architecture, interior design, furniture design and art direction. Their creative process emphasizes drawing and writing, and asserts artisanal technique, research, innovation and imagination.

Frédéric Rochette received an architecture degree from the Ecole Nationale d’Architecture Paris Val de Seine, and Hervé Winkler attended the École Nationale supérieure d’Architecture de Versailles where he received a dual degree in both architecture and interior design.

      Marcin Rusak

Marcin Rusak was born in 1987 in Warsaw, Poland. He holds undergraduate degrees in humanities from the University of Warsaw and in art from the Eindhoven Design Academy in the Netherlands, as well as an MA in Design Products from London’s Royal College of Arts. He currently works out of London and Warsaw. With an experimental practice that merges contemporary art and design, Rusak draws inspiration from theoretical research and philosophical inquiry as well as from explorations of material processes in the studio. Influenced by his family lineage as a third generation descendant of flower growers after his father and grandfather, he has developed signature techniques using plant flora as a striking decorative element within his work, preserving flowers and leaves in resin which are fused seamlessly into his thoughtful modern pieces. Each piece is unique, conserving the ephemeral shades and textures of petals and leaves, which float suspended in beautiful contrast with the smooth white, black or clear resin encasing them. Rusak is also adept at creating minimal designs in metal, carving materials to their bare elements to create elegant, rugged forms. In addition to his exquisite design furniture, Rusak produces artworks on silk using colorful flower pigmentation, resulting in simple and delicate pieces marked by bright natural abstract formations. Still in the emerging phase of his career, Rusak is already the recipient of numerous industry awards including the Mazda Design Award, the Architectural Digest Design Award, the Wallpaper Design Award, and the Perrier-Jouet Arts Salon Prize, among others. He was recently selected as a part of #AD100. He has held solo exhibitions at Twenty First Gallery in New York as well as at galleries in London, Miami, and Brussels. His work has also appeared in a number of group exhibitions at prestigious venues in North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, including the V&A London, the London Design Festival, Design Miami Basel, Design Days Dubai, and Japan’s Toyama Museum of Art and Design.

      Hubert Le Gall

Born in 1961 in Lyon, France, Hubert Le Gall is self taught in sculpture and design and has reigned for more than two decades as a celebrated figure on the international design scene. He works with a small team at his studio in Montmartre, Paris, which once served as the atelier of French Post-Impressionist Pierre Bonnard, and also collaborates with French artisans bearing generations of technical expertise to bring his sculptural design works to life. Known for his witty approach to functional pieces and design objects, Le Gall is inspired by archetypal imagery from art history such as Andy Warhol’s daisies, Roy Lichtenstein’s sunsets, and Jean-Pierre Raynaud’s pots, creating unique pieces and small editions built from classic materials such as bronze, brass, exotic woods, and velvet. Making lavish use of fine furniture craft techniques including marquetry, gold leaf, and Lesage embroidery, Le Gall pushes the limits of his craft with what he calls “in between objects” that stand halfway between sculpture and decor, questioning the imperative to functionality. Plants and animals are recurring themes within Le Gall’s oeuvre of furniture, lighting, and decorative objects: anthropomorphic shapes which suggest allegories of desire, innocence, and our animal nature, demonstrating the artist’s poetic spirit and sense of humor united with a fondness for luxury. Le Gall’s work is found in many prestigious private and public collections worldwide, including Musée La Piscine in Roubaix and Montreal’s Musée des Beaux-Arts. He has held solo exhibitions at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs at the Château Borély in Marseille, the Musée de Beaux-Arts in Riom, and at Villa Kérylos at the French Centre de Monuments Historiques. In tandem with his work as an artist, he has also worked for two decades as a scenographer and consultant for large museums in France, including the Jacquemart-André and Musée Maillol, as well as the Grand Palais and Musée d’Orsay, where he helped stage exhibitions of Claude Monet and Pierre Bonnard respectively. Admired by top architects and designers such as Peter Marino, Caroline Sarkozy, and Jacques Garcia, Le Gall’s sculptures and furniture appear in Dior boutiques, and he has also collaborated with distinguished French brands Ruinart and Hermes.
